Fandom Snowflake Challenge Day 1
Jan. 1st, 2012 07:42 amIn your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Drop a link to your post in the comments.
I tend to think of the Epic Supernatural Bechdel Fixit Project as a single, if very disjointed, fanwork. Fuck knows none of the ficlets except the first handful are really long enough to count on their own. But it's one Bechdel-passing scene per episode, and in lots of cases it's something that could slide right into the episode as shown.
For similar reasons, I'm quite fond of my
100_women icon-making project, at least one icon per episode of Supernatural. It was going to be a different woman for each episode, but there are too many episodes where Gwen Campbell is the only woman present. I need to decide which tables I'm stealing from to have enough icon slots to cover up through the end of season seven, though, and if I'm doing the anime at all.
Kiss Me Now or Catch Your Death is one I particularly enjoyed writing. It's Mary/Ellen written and set between seasons five and six of Supernatural.
Ain't Nobody Can Offer Protection is Mary contemplating her deal.
Check My Vital Signs—I think I may be the only person who's written Adam Milligan genderswap? Actual genderswap instead of giving the Winchester boys a kid sister.
The Beatrisia Catardi collection is my exploration of Ruby and her backstory. The stories don't quite all harmonize, though.
In the 'Ellie is not monofannish' show, The Benefits of Salt and Pentagrams—give me a show (Friends with Benefits) starring Danneel Harris Ackles and expect me not to cross it over with Supernatural? YOU MUST BE JOKING. I meant to write Sara/Dean to go with the Riley/Sam; maybe it'll happen sometime this year.
In the 'no, really, Ellie is not monofannish' show, Feels Like Coming Home is a Sucker Punch fic tying off a loose end the movie left.
where you go, I go is one of my Yuletide fics this year, the first fic on the AO3 for 19th Century Civic Allegory. Liberty and Justice get married and Progress officiates.
Sugared Mushrooms is my other Yuletide fic, Echo Bazaar, the Player (who I always envision as female) exploring the food of the Neath.
These are, I think, the stories that define me as a creator. I value female characters. Even when the source throws them away, I value them. I value the interactions and relationships between female characters, even when the source hardly gives us any such. And half of what I recced might be comparatively longfic, but I can't write longfic for shit. There's a reason I'm not putting my
spn_j2_bigbang fic on the defines-me-as-a-creator list.
