So I got one of the emails from Amazon to Kindle self-pubbers, the text of which is posted at readersunited.com. You don't know how tempting it is to email the addresses they provide (one is at amazon dot com) and say something to the effect of "Dear AMAZON: You want Hachette to stop using its authors as leverage? How about YOU stop using authors as leverage? Which I know for a fact you're doing, because I follow several Hachette authors on Twitter who've complained that their books are un-orderable, or taking a week or three to get in stock, from Amazon when other retailers have no problem. Also, why exactly do you think Hachette would care about the opinions of self-pubbers?"

This diverse steampunk anthology looks so fab but I cannot justify spending money on it. woe is meeeeee but those of y'all who do have $15 that isn't urgently needed elsewhere should totally buy it!

This is your weekly reminder that I have a GoFundMe.

If you want to send me money but want something instead of nothing for the money:

* my prompt call is still open
* I take fiction commissions (hell, I'll take nonfiction commissions, but I'm not sure what fair pricing for those would be)
* I proofread anything at $0.007/word (rounded to the nearest ten cents), turnaround time seven days or less (but don't insist on less unless you pay me more)
* I do tarot readings (one card for $1, past-present-future spread for $2, Celtic Cross spread for $5, standard disclaimer that this is for entertainment purposes only applies)
* talk to me about custom jewelry

Payment for all of the above through the GoFundMe, please.

The form of a question may ease our way or pose obstacles. Or, when even slightly altered, it may generate antithetical answers, as in the case of the two priests who, being unsure if it was permissible to smoke and pray at the same time, wrote to the Pope for a definitive answer. One priest phrased the question "Is it permissible to smoke while praying?" and was told it is not, since prayer should be the focus of one's whole attention; the other priest asked if it is permissible to pray while smoking and was told that it is, since it is always appropriate to pray.
And this, gentlefolks, is why more than half of the US population is pro-life and more than half is pro-choice.
