We hold these truths to be self-evident: If you can't fix it, you don't own it.

I would add the caveat that if you do not have the skills to fix it (and especially if you have been told all your life that you're not supposed to have the skills to fix it 'cause you're a girl), you ought still be able to own it (for any value of 'it'), but they already thought of [at least part of] that; one of the bullet points under "We have the right:" is "to choose our own repair technician".

...you know, 3/4 of the premise of Supernatural flat out does not fly in a polytheistic (rather than monolatrous) world where "the spirits of the dead are the best protection of the living" or however that line of Galina Krasskova's goes (I can't quite remember and can't look it up at work).

I'm just saying.

(that said, I'm pretty sure most of pop culture's experience with protective ancestor spirits is contained in Disney's Mulan.)
