I donated blood today. Not a full unit, because my blood flow is apparently really sluggish today. Which means I get all the feeling like crap afterward, none of the "I helped people" glow.

Doesn't help that the nurse who stuck me did so clumsily. Ow. :(

I need to read the rest of Louise Erdrich's The Round House (PSA: trigger warning for offscreen violent rape and attempted murder and onscreen aftermath thereof, and also a teenage boy being a creep in first-person PoV, and that's just in the first fifty pages) and write a five-page paper analyzing a character from it. But it is so much more fun to surf Amazon and figure out what I'm getting the lady whose ornament I grabbed off the Be a Santa to a Senior tree at the library.

For reasons I wish to source the quote "Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world's grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk humbly, now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it." It is universally attributed to "The Talmud". This is about as helpful as referring to a quote as being from "The Bible" or "The Tanakh" instead of the more precise "Isaiah 49:15" or even just "Book of Isaiah".

The closest I've found is the last sentence, differently phrased, in paragraph 16 here, and obviously the difference in phrasing can be attributed to translator choices. But you'll observe that the preceding sentences at the link are nothing like the preceding sentences in the quote...

Okay, apparently the middle bit is a paraphrase of Micah 6:8.

But where did the first bit come from? I'm only finding it in context of the rest of the quote, and nobody has a more precise attribution than "The Talmud".

Finished the fucking Round House book. Highly unpleasant read, do not recommend. Still have to write paper :( :( :(

That Sara Bareilles lyric lodged in my head while I was trying to meditate and has not gone away. Earworms. Argh.

Rain noise generator. Excellent. House-blessing blend of incense. Also excellent.

Sigma: Phoibos [Apollo] speaks plainly {Saphôs}, ‘Stay, friend.’

I'm a lot calmer now but so tired.
