you won't make yourself a name if you follow the rules

Various friends have done this and I liked the idea: what should be my new year resolutions? Feel free to suggest anything at all, serious or silly, and I'll pick some I like.

Day 01

In your own space, talk about why you are doing the Fandom Snowflake Challenge? What drew you to it as a participant? What do you hope to accomplish by doing these challenges? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I want to feel more of a connection with fandom. I haven't been feeling fannish for months and that's not good.


Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

Hmmm. Specifically things we're afraid to ask for? There isn't much I'm afraid to ask for...

1) All the genderswap AUs. Not just Rule 63, where a canonically cis man-or-woman becomes a cis the-other-one. Genderswaps where canonically cis characters are trans of the same gender (so for instance cis woman to trans woman). Genderswaps where canonically cis characters are trans of the same assigned-at-birth gender (so for instance cis man to trans woman or genderqueer/nonbinary individual). Genderswaps where about half of the canonical characters are Rule 63'd (or otherwise transmogrified), not just one or two prominent characters. ALL THE GENDERSWAPS. (Except if you take a canonically trans character and make them cis, I will be most displeased.)

2) All the racebending AUs. Or rather, all the racebending AUs that take canonically white characters and make them people of color. Or otherwise take people of the locally dominant ethnicity and make them not—so making Bakura Ryou of Yu-Gi-Oh! a white Brit instead of Japanese would be legit. (Black Brit or Indian Brit would be more interesting, mind you.)

3) I don't think there's a term for this, but all the AUs where a canonically abled character is disabled. Somebody's got asthma. Somebody needs a wheelchair. Somebody's got epic anxiety. Yadda.


Day 03

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Yuuki finally managed to move her head, only to see Jounouchi and Honda on the ground and Ushio walking away—but in her hand lay the last piece of the puzzle, and the puzzle itself was in her backpack, only a few tens of centimeters out of arm's reach.

She had to solve the puzzle. Only a few more centimeters. Her wish would come true when she solved the puzzle. Only a little farther—

The puzzle piece snicked into place.

A golden glow, and the world fell away.

"She hurt me," Hanasaki pointed out. "She hurt you."

"That doesn't make it okay to hurt her back!"

Hanasaki shrugged, then winced. "That's what superheroes do," he said.

Had Luigsech emphasized 'man'? Ceallach thought she had. "Have they tried asking aid of someone who is not a man? A woman, or a fae?"

Luigsech stopped. Ceallach was two paces further when she realized and turned back: Luigsech's face showed astonishment. "People have tried summoning fae for aid, but they always say it's a mortal problem," Luigsech said. "No one's ever thought of asking a woman."

Ceallach raised her eyebrows, and Luigsech blushed. Luigsech had thought of it for certain.

Saturday morning at nine-forty-five found Tara sitting at a two-person table in Brewniverse, mug of ambition in one hand and cinnamon bun in the other.

Grandmother Mairwen told me the tale of Cadair Idris, the mountain called the Giant's Chair. To put it in a nutshell: aspiring poets climbed the mountain and spent a night under the stars. Some woke mad. Some woke poets. (Grandmother seemed to think there's a difference.) Some never woke at all.

Sistrums jangled, cymbals chimed, castanets clacked, dancers stamped. Meritamun, princess of Kemet, poured a measure of beer for the goddess Hathor and another for herself. Hathor must surely be drunk by now.

Time to just sit and read. Time to just sit and crochet. Time to just sit and watch a movie or TV show.

I don't have a whole lot of time these days.

And what I do have, I seem to squander by spending hours refreshing all the things in hopes of new content, instead of doing things I need to do or enjoy doing and then going through any new DW/FB/etc content that appeared in the interim...
