whydoyouneedtoknow, aka Anne Walsh, and
damkianna. Both are fabulous authors who hit my big fic kink: MOAR LADIES = MOAR AWESOME.
damkianna avoids killing or otherwise writing out canon female characters—one of her big projects, Flying Blossoms, is a bunch of Five Thingses that are either 'five women X's mother might have been' or 'five things X's mother might have done', and in every instance the mother in question is someone never or rarely seen in Avatar: the Last Airbender. And in Imagine the Ocean and Listen to the Earth, the Avatar Gang is populated by an ever-increasing number of canon female characters. Suki. Yue. There's also a friendly Fire Nation commander OFC, Yin. The central plot point of Imagine/Listen is that Katara is the Avatar; I am dying to see what happens when damkianna gets hold of The Legend of Korra.
Anne makes use of original female characters as well as canon female characters—not that damkianna doesn't, but damkianna's epic doesn't rely on the OFCs the way Anne's epic does. The Dangerverse is named for the OFC who sets everything in motion, Gertrude 'Danger' Granger, Hermione's twenty-years-older sister who has psychic abilities and who marries Remus and with his help kidnaps Harry from his more-abusive-than-canon relatives and frees Sirius from Azkaban so that Sirius can marry OFC #2, Aletha Freeman, Lily's best friend, and with her have a kid, OFC #3, Meghan. Remus, Sirius, Danger, and Aletha collectively raise Harry, Hermione, Meghan, and Draco Black—yes you heard that right; Narcissa gets a Crowning Moment of Awesome into the bargain. And from there the changes just sort of spiral.
Anne and damkianna are the two authors I tried but failed to imitate with my
spn_j2_bigbang last year, and the authors I am trying and hopefully succeeding to imitate with my
sncross_bigbang this year. (It helps that Anne wrote A Widow in Waiting, first of the Chronicles of Glenscar, which is the 'verse I'm crossing with Supernatural, and I have conned Anne into doing beta work for my Big Bang.)
I'll come back to day twelve.

Supernatural 3x11 MYSTERY SPOT. This is the defining episode of Sam in seasons one through five. He goes utterly batshit crazy trying to save Dean, and when he thinks Dean is beyond saving, he shuts down into superhunter mode. I can't really explain my glee over this episode but it is beyond question my favorite of the series.
