I told somebody on network that I didn't feel capable of writing a Once Upon a Time AU, and a few posts down I came across a multifandom fluff commentfic meme, and lo and behold, what should fall out but a Once Upon a Time AU. A hundred sixty words of it, anyhow. Not the interesting ones, unfortunately, but the beginning of something fascinating that I suspect I can't get any further on until I've seen the whole season.
