Agh. I have between three and three and a half hours (depending on whether I'm actually going to AC Moore before work) before I leave the house for the day. The only thing I am required to do before leaving the house is shower. That leaves two-and-three-quarters to three-and-one-quarter hours with nothing to do other than consume media and be creative. So why am I having such trouble settling down to watch a twenty-odd-minute episode?

Also, A Song of Angry Fen could do with some love, since there's only a week till deadline and I only have a little over half minimum word count, but [community profile] fic_promptly's lonely-prompts challenge is calling out to me. For the first time, I should add, in forever. (My [community profile] fan_flashworks entry is the first one in just over a year. I have no idea when I [community profile] fic_promptlyed last.)

Am I a bad person if my main reaction is "ooh, interesting new wrinkle for Fake Geek Girls"?

Which I'm thinking about retitling. What do people think of the title "A Song of Angry Fen"?

General call for somebody please anybody to read over what I have of "Fake Geek Girls" (2500 words so far, give or take depending on whether we trust Google Docs' word counter or Scrivener's) and opinionate on same. Drop your Gmail in the comments or PM box and I'll share the doc with you. I'm particularly concerned with whether the format of most of it (fake Dreamwidth posts and comments) works, with whether the general concept/idea works, and with whether my handful of fake Dreamwidth users (1) sound sufficiently distinct from one another and (2) sufficiently evoke a massive fannish conversation on the subject.

Teaser:
Art frightens people. Not every artist has the Gift, but enough do to make people wonder. What magic was worked when this story was written, when this quilt was sewn, when this episode was filmed? What if the magic is in reading the story or curling up under the quilt or watching the show? What if the magic is on me?

Gifted ones are rarely such fools as to work magic that is not bound off when the knitting is finished. When we do work magic that stays active beyond the completion of the piece, it is, or it should be, invariably benign. But the people, oh, they believe anything.

My name is Amy Flanagan, and I am that most dangerous of creatures: an Artist.

So apparently Priya's pronouns are Hindi. Hindi apparently has gender-neutral pronouns. Hindi in fact apparently has only gender-neutral pronouns. I am very pleased about this. (Less pleased that all the verbs are gendered and there's only two grammatical genders, but nothing I can do about that. Also, I can't really talk, because I'm planning to take gendered-to-hell-and-back Spanish for the language requirement for my degree.) Only one problem. I'm writing for an English-speaking audience. How do I turn the little squiggles in this post into something I can type on my US English keyboard, that my English-speaking readers have half a chance of pronouncing? And how to decline the pronouns? (Like, how does, or does one, distinguish between 'she' and 'her' and so forth?) I found one site that says it's 'vah', another site that says 'woh', I'm not sure if those are the the same word transliterated differently or the same word declined differently or different words altogether.
