Given...Recent Events...I think a lot of y'all Jewish folks could use a few smiles right now. So here's what I'm doing, by way of supporting your community from outside.
If you're Jewish:
Drop me a character (Jewish or otherwise) who you want to see happy. You can comment here or email me at alexconall@gmail.com. Please specify the canon the character is from, unless you're prompting for an original character along the lines of Original Works Exchange (tag set). (I reserve the right to ask for a do-over if you name a canon character I am unfamiliar with.) Add a short prompt if you like.
If you're not Jewish:
Same rules except the character does have to be Jewish, please. I am okay with headcanoning somebody Jewish if their religious beliefs aren't specified in canon. (I'm also not policing who is and isn't Jewish. Not my business. I do hope, however, that in keeping with the spirit of this thing, non-Jewish people will not prompt for non-Jewish people.)
And I will, over the next several days, write you a couple hundred words of happy character, and stick it on AO3. Hopefully that results in happy readers? :)

fiction for sale!
Jun. 26th, 2017 03:41 pmI am selling, and calling for prompts for, short stories. Send me money by Paypal and send me your handle and a prompt or three, either in the Paypal notes or in a comment or PM; I'll write a story to one of your prompts, length to be determined by dividing your Paypaled sum in dollars by $0.04/word. (Give or take. I figure if you pay for one thousand words and get eleven hundred, you won't object.)
I write best in fantasy and fairy tales. I love writing multiply marginalized characters. You can read a lot of my work at
EllieMurasaki; let us not have the argument about whether stories that would be considered fanfiction without question were they written to present-day media canons are in fact fanfiction when the canons are public domain by age. (Because, you know, if a bunch of my most recent stuff on AO3 is fanfic, so is most of Disney's animated canon!) I particularly wish to point you to The Finch on the Apple Bough (an Aschenputtel retelling with an acearo Cinderella) and Learning Foresight (a modern-set trans-affirming retelling of part of the tale of Tiresias from Ovid's Metamorphoses) as exemplars of my current work.
I should warn you up front that this sale is a fundraiser for[thing I am not quite willing to talk about in public yet, because it is not quite 100% certainly happening] moving expenses for my sister and me to get an apartment together, one bedroom bigger than the apartment I'm in! Moving will take up epic fucktons of my time and energy in the next two months. So do not expect to receive your story until, idk, October? Though I shall certainly endeavor to get it finished and posted sooner!
If you buy a story having boosted the signal and linked me to where you boosted the signal, I'll bump up the word count you paid for by fifty words per signal boost. If you boost the signal without buying a story and link me to where you boosted the signal, drop me a prompt when you drop me the link and I'll write a three-sentence excerpt of a story to that prompt.
Update!
dialecticdreamer, as described at her journal, is offering more words to the same donation! Thank you,
dialecticdreamer!
Fiction that has sprung from this:
Pride Parade
Pancake Rebellion and Maple Syrup Rebellion
an excerpt of the Phalēron novel (

If someone wants to spot me $150 for medication expenses, I will love you forever and also write a 3750-word story to your prompt. (I reserve the right to call do-over on prompts.) Lower dollar figures are 100% welcome and I will still love you forever and write to your prompt too, though it'll be a shorter story.
I am still selling my jewelry collection downsizing; there's ten pairs of dangly earrings still, one of which is sets with a pendant.
SunbowArts is 100% a thing, though I grant there isn't a whole lot there yet.
sunbowgems is also a thing, though also kind of bare. (Maybe I will spend the next two hours or so making jewelry and not just sorting jewelry makings?)
My Patreon has many shiny poetrys, some of which are available only to patrons.

prompt call time!
Mar. 20th, 2015 11:15 pmI want to write a bunch of scenes from the latest big project, If I Can Stop One Heart From Breaking ('Heartbreaking' for short), which is a fictional history of the unsung heroes of the last three to five decades of social justice activism. Since of course none of y'all know the Heartbreaking 'verse well enough to give specific prompts: the theme is microaggressions and microactivism. If you want to look at the
rainbowfic Octarine prompt list and add a line from that list to your prompt, that would be awesome.
Everything resulting from this prompt call will be posted free to all. That said, if anyone wishes to feed the artist, my Paypal is alexconall at gmail and there is also my Patreon and GoFundMe.

I'm too lazy to figure out a proper prompt call text, but: fanfic and original fic, theme tarot, hit me.
I reserve the right to say "I'm not writing that fandom", but if you've seen it on
EllieMurasaki and it's not Supernatural then I'm probably up for it (though I can't swear I'm up to date on the canon). I'm not taking payment for fanfic, of course, and you can expect those to be about a hundred words apiece.
For original fic, I'll write about a hundred words for free per prompter (unless somebody's prompts really grab me), and you can bribe me to expand upon that by Paypaling to alexconall at gmail or feeding my GoFundMe, four cents a word rounded to the nearest dollar. (Which is to say, ten dollars will put you in shouting distance of four hundred words.)
Prompts involving marginalized people (queer, trans, PoC, disabled, etc) are particularly encouraged.

Apr. 21st, 2014 01:37 pmI have been shit at writing during Camp NaNoWriMo. And
senmut is hosting a prompt call, idea being prompts are lyrics, tropes, single words or phrases, pieces of art, or whatnot, and Asp intends to freewrite the whole month. I am stealing this idea wholesale, except that where Asp is okay with specific fandoms/characters, I don't want any. Maybe I'll write October Daye. Maybe I'll write Avatar: the Last Airbender. Maybe I'll write something belongs on
alexconall. I don't know, and I don't want to know until I get there.
I'm hoping for at least thirty-one prompts, one per day of May. More would be excellent in case some of the prompts don't work for me.
